Media and Social Networking are not one in the same. However, I do believe social networking is a form of media. Media in my own words would be any forms of digital communication, be it the internet, social media, the television, etc. Anything that is publicly transmit I would classify as media. Social Networking is a form of media. Social Networking is using the internet in order to stay connected with others. With these definitions you can see why I would classify social networking as a form of media.      Currently, the social networking sites that I use are Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Facebook. I use these sites weekly, and some I use more frequently than others. I would say some I use daily and some maybe once a week. I use all of them for entertainment and news purposes and that is about it. Not much actually social networking is done through these sites.       The use of my social media doesn't have an impact ...

We Are Data: LJ2

"Today, what we do in the world has at least the capacity to be observed, recorded, analyzed, and stored in a databank". For me, this quote from the "We Are Data" introduction sums up what I have read very well. It is learned early on in the introduction that whenever we go online, everything we do is being recorded and stored into a database. "We Are Data" breaks down how algorithms store everything that we are doing online and give us different labels based on our online activity. Over time, search patterns you use will continue to alter this profile on you. This is a scary thing. We are being labeled and pin pointed based off what what we do online but not who we are. "When we are made of data, we are not ourselves in terms of atoms". The whole reading is showing me that the internet is a place that is being used for much more than just a news source, entertainment, or connecting. It is being used to monitor, label, and "know" ...

Social Media Rules and Thoughts: LJ1

Hi everyone, Social media is an interesting place that over the years has evolved to be a mainstay in most everyones lives. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing that is up to the judgment of the user. For me personally, even though I have quite a bit of social media platforms I use, I am not a fan of social media today. I have quite a bit of "Dos" and "Don'ts" when it comes to social media. Starting with "Do's", we have following news pages, following sports pages that I am interested in, and following a few friends. I keep social media to mainly following specific sports pages and news pages I enjoy and find either entertaining or informative. This is it for my "Do" list.  My "Don't" List is pretty simple. I do not post on social media at all. My social media presence is strictly for following the news and sports pages that I have an interest in. I am not on social media to glorify my life or to show off a lifestyle....
Welcome everyone to Dillon's Corner. Lets start off by introducing myself. My name is Dillon Itani and I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. I still reside in the Tampa Bay area and do not see myself leaving Tampa anytime soon. I currently am entering the final courses towards my Information Studies degree and am looking forward to getting done with these last couple semesters and moving forward into a career in the field of study. I am a pretty outgoing person and enjoy playing in a couple different of soccer leagues with friends, going out on the weekends, and spending time with family when I can. As far as professional experience I have been in the car business for most of my adult life and have had some jobs as well in the recruiting industry hiring people for a few different companies during that time. I am not to big into social media so this blog experience will be something different for me. I do have an Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat, however, I rarely use any of the...
