Social Media and Healthcare: LJ7

Hi Everyone, This past week our readings were focused on the links between healthcare and social media. We had articles that went over if social media can have positve impacts on healthcare, online healthcare and social support services, the spread of misinformation of healthcare, etc. The articles that stood out most to me were "Can Social Media Have A Positive Impact On Global Healthcare" by A. Arnold; and "Impact of Rumors or Misinformation on Coronavirus disease in Social Media by Hossain and Mazumder. These readings did not change how I use social media however they have brought some light to things I didn't have much information on before. One thing I was surprised to read was in the article by Arnold was that millenials are ditching primary healthcare in favor of social media. Many millenials are seeking on demand support for healthcare issues via social media services and if needed they will go to urgent care clinics rather than primary doctors or ERs due to ...

Social Media Laws and Ethics : LJ6

Hi Everyone, Part 1: Social Media Laws and Ethics I found the articles on social media laws and ethics to be very interesting. The "Why Ethics Matter For Social Media, Silicon Valley And Every Tech Industry Leader" by Rob Dube peaked my interest the most. The article discuss if if tech companies should step in and and enfore rules and guidelines on their platforms or let the platforms grow within the communities organically. I believe that these sites should allow communities to grow organically. This is a free country with free speach, however I do believe their at the same time needs to be some regulations on hate speech.  Overall, ethics and social media laws are at the time in place in some sites and communities but not others. I believe it should be up to the platform as it currently is. Let the platforms decide how to handle this and users can choose which platforms they want to be a part of. Learning about this truly doesn't impact my and my use of social media as...

Social Media and Image Sharing: LJ 5

Hi Everyone, This week in our readings we learned about social media and image sharing. From things such as copyrights of images and the implications with social media to general image content online and and the engagement that it brings we learned quite a bit about the topic. Images are used in social media in many ways. People post personal images to show off what they do in their lives, things they enjoy, etc. Blog sites will post images of celebrities and things of that nature. News sites will post images that pertain to the world news they are talking about in certain articles. Images make up a huge portion of the social media world today. Social media has some negatives to the images as well. One thing that we read about was body images and how images online are impacting people. Often times we will see images of the "perfect body" when in reality these bodies just aren't physically possible for most people. People get obssessive over these things and in turn this c...

Social Media and Social Media Trends - LJ 4

Hi Everyone,  For this weeks learning journal we wil be discussing social media and social media trends. Sticking to the topic of the week I want to start of discussing the article on sproutsocial by Ronnie Gomez from this weeks readings. The article discusses some of the latest social media trends. The one standing out most to me is "edutainment". This is growing quickly and companies are starting to create informative content that is also entertaining. This is the type of content that is needed for everyone of all ages. Informative content that also can grasp the audience attention and keep it will get its point across more so than something that is strictly informative. I like this. This is the type of social media trend that I believe can stand the test of time. "Edutainment" is not something that will just fizzle out. Think about when you were young in middle or elementary school. The information that usually was grasped the easiest not only was informative but...

Time Diary

For this assignement I have tracked my useage of my two most frequent used social media apps in minutes per day.  I found that I used Twitter a bit more than Insagram and never topped over 20 minutes per day on either of the applications. In a day I also never spent over an hour total on social media which I was happy about. I try to limit my social media use as much as possible. As for times I used these apps they varied daily. There was no set time that I would get on social media or a trend in what time of the day I would do so. It was random as could be. All my social media use is through my phone as well I never go on social media through my laptop. I didn't communicate with anyone through these apps either. When on these tools I am just scrolling the feeds and getting information on world news and sports news.

A Reflection - LJ 3

Hi Everyone, The start of my blog experience has been something I have truly enjoyed. I think it has helped me learn about myself and specficially my social media tendencies. After going through some of the other blogs that have been done I believe I am less reliant on social media than most. Yes, I use social media to get some world news and sports news but I do not use social media "socially". I don't post anything of or about myself and I have noticed that isn't the norm for most people using social media in this day and age. I have reflected a bit and I don't think this is something that will change moving forward. Social media for me will always be simply just for obtaining some news and following some sports pages I enjoy. Some thoughts from some of our past readings recently would be on we are data. I have always known everything we do online is tracked so reading more about it didn't shake me much. It wont push me away from interenet and social media u...

Hand On Assignment 2

Media and Social Networking are not one in the same. However, I do believe social networking is a form of media. Media in my own words would be any forms of digital communication, be it the internet, social media, the television, etc. Anything that is publicly transmit I would classify as media. Social Networking is a form of media. Social Networking is using the internet in order to stay connected with others. With these definitions you can see why I would classify social networking as a form of media.      Currently, the social networking sites that I use are Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Facebook. I use these sites weekly, and some I use more frequently than others. I would say some I use daily and some maybe once a week. I use all of them for entertainment and news purposes and that is about it. Not much actually social networking is done through these sites.       The use of my social media doesn't have an impact ...
