Social Media Laws and Ethics : LJ6

 Hi Everyone,

Part 1: Social Media Laws and Ethics

I found the articles on social media laws and ethics to be very interesting. The "Why Ethics Matter For Social Media, Silicon Valley And Every Tech Industry Leader" by Rob Dube peaked my interest the most. The article discuss if if tech companies should step in and and enfore rules and guidelines on their platforms or let the platforms grow within the communities organically. I believe that these sites should allow communities to grow organically. This is a free country with free speach, however I do believe their at the same time needs to be some regulations on hate speech.

Overall, ethics and social media laws are at the time in place in some sites and communities but not others. I believe it should be up to the platform as it currently is. Let the platforms decide how to handle this and users can choose which platforms they want to be a part of.

Learning about this truly doesn't impact my and my use of social media as I do not really post on my pages or others. I simply follow the pages I like to get the world and sports news I am looking for

Part 2: Social Media Lies and Propaganda

I found these articles on social media lies and propaganda interest as well. The "69+ Global Fake Statistics Revealed for 2023 (Updated)" by Daniel Ruby is the article that was the most interesting for me. I love seeing statstitics as numbers speak volumes. The fact that 80% of adults noted that they have come across fake news and consumed it shows that the amount of false information online and on social media platforms is absurdly high. This was followed by 65% of Americans stating they fully trust traditional media outlets. Let that sink in. All these people reported they have read and consumed fake news online and through traditional media as well yet 65% of Americans trust these sources. It is absurd to me.

Overall, none of this information will change how I use social media or consume information as I already made sure to fact check all information I obtain and consume. It was interesting to read about though.
